features Panoramic Anatomy

Maxillofacial anatomy on a panoramic radiograph is difficult. Variation in positioning acts to this complexity. Several structures are superimposed on this radiograph. In addition, the ghost images create another layer of complexity. Since panoramic radiography is a frequent imaging technique in the dental office, every dental student must exert sufficient efforts to understand the anatomy.

Intro to Panoramic Anatomy

An effective way to interpret a panoramic radiograph is to consider the image to be composed of three different radiographs: right and left lateral skull images and a PA skull image in the middle.

A panoramic radiograph has similar three views:

By combining the three segmented images, we have a panoramic view of the jaws.
