Oral Radiology Program welcome all students from the School of Dentistry. Our staff is well trained to guide you through the challenges of radiographic imaging. Our faculty is focused on augmenting your critical thinking skills as they relate to interpreting radiographic findings. We are committed to helping you navigate the learning curve that leads to clinical and diagnostic competence.

Dr. Mike Gavino

Michael Gavino B.S., D.D.S., is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Division of Oral Medicine and Diagnosis, Department of Diagnostic and Biological Sciences of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He received his Dental Degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1984. During his years of studies, he was a Summer Research Fellow and recipients of the Minnesota Academy of Restorative Dentistry Award and the International College of Dentistry Award for his clinical and academic achievements. In 1985, he co-founded Apple Tree Dental, a national non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the oral health of people with special dental access needs. In 1987, Dr. Gavino established his own private practice in St. Anthony, Minnesota.

Dr. Gavino, has been teaching Basic Radiographic Interpretation since 1984. He shares his wealth of clinical experience and insights to educate and inspire Dental Students, Hygiene Students and Dental Assistant Students. He is a resource to the International Dentist Students and the Hygiene Master’s Program.

Outside of the University setting, he is involved in the community as an advisor to a number of businesses and dental practices. He enjoys fishing, golfing, coaching and volunteering. Dr. Gavino is committed to his profession to help improve dental health, and moreover, to affect the quality of people’s lives.

Dr. Gavino's daughter Michelle Gavino followed her dad's path and obtianed DDS from U of MN in 2010.
